My CI comes with a case that includes a dri-aid insert. The dri-aid insert is used to absorb moisture from the CI. On the bottom is a window where one can see crystal balls. These were green which means they need to be refreshen. When refreshen, they would be yellowish in color. The instructions say to put the insert into an oven at 200 for a couple of hours.
Why bother heating up a whole big oven for such a small thing when the toaster oven will do the same trick plus it has a timer. I set the timer and guess what…heard the ticking of it! How cool is that!
Last night, we went to the fireworks at UB and let me tell you, they were LOUD! Thank goodness, I can adjust the volume. Rather than feel like a dull thud, each boom was a LOUD cymbalic like blast that echoed all across the sky. It was simply amazing! The beauty of the CI was it absorbed and gave me every single sound of each firework going off. The hearing aid wouldn’t even work as it had a built-in noise protection filter that was so sensitive I never bothered to wear it during the fireworks.
In two weeks, there will be a big family reunion as we celebrate the queen of the family’s 85th birthday and Dan’s 16th birthday. And this will be the first time they will see me with the CI. What a moment that should be!
I heard the boom boom last night too! Wasn’t it just great?!
Good luck presenting your implanted self to relatives. I have been activated for a week and just last night went to a party with some folks and I had to answer the question “So you are activated, why can’t you hear me?”
I went up there and looked for you, but not much chance of finding anyone in that crowd. The fireworks were pretty impressive. After they started I moved toward the right end of the lake, near the thing that’s supposed to look like Greek or Roman columns, so the trees wouldn’t be in my line of sight.
