The doctor’s appointment yesterday was uneventful and the stitches came out. And, I have been released to go back to work Monday. Exercise and running will have to hold off for another week (don’t worry Di, I’ll be at the Penguin on the 28th to help you take pictures). I also wrote to the audiologist at Buffalo Hearing and Speech to find out the status of the release date for the Advanced Bionics Harmony. The rep will be visiting on February 1st so hopefully, I’ll have a more firmer activation date.
On another matter, you might want to take the time to subscribe to a feed, if you haven’t done that already. While my goal is to continue this blog as I work through my experience with the cochlear implant, there may be days when I won’t have an entry. I don’t want you to think that I have stopped writing but just in case.
Hi Sam!! Firstly, welcome to the cyborg world. Trust me, you’ll be so happy you did it a bit further down the road. It won’t be very good in the beginning – if anything, it will be downright scary at times because nobody can prepare you for how HORRIBLE things sound when switched on, BUT I can assure you that literally within 5 minutes things start to improve. This has been one of the best things I’ve done in my life, I’m sure you’ll be the same in a few weeks. Good luck!
I am aware of the beginnings and have prepared myself for it by not expecting anything other than “whatever happens, happens!” Just like in my running endeavors…where my times went from the 27 minute range to the low 22 minute range. All it takes is a dedication, hard work, a “can-do” attitude and a no pain, no gain approach. And having a wife as dedicated as yours helps tremendously!
