Saturday night, Steph and I went for dinner with friends and fellow runners at the Shogun, a Japanese steakhouse. The place was dimly lit and I am sure that pre-CI I would be sitting in total silence while the conversations fly all around. It was amazing to say the least that I was able to follow about 85% of the conversations without having to rely so much on lip-reading as in the past.
Basically, it was hearing and understanding certain words and as fragmented they were , enough to be able to pierce together what was being said. I think a few times, I may have responded wrong but that is definitely a lot better than when I responded wrong, most of the time. Kind of like acknowledging jsut for the heck of acknowledging and hoping it was the right answer. I am sure my mother and sister would have a field day as in the old days asking me, “What did I say?”
And another CI moment yesterday…the timer on the oven going off from Steph’s yummy brownies. I never even heard it with the right ear probably because of the frequency and pitch. As I mentioned before, the left ear seems to favor the low to mid-range while right ear is more in the high range. And, the left ear also discriminates better between Hi-Res S and Hi-Res P. Music seems sounds better with the Hi-Res S strategy whereas, voices are better with Hi-Res P.
Mapping session comes up this Wednesday. A little fine tuning and maybe balancing between the 2 ears. The rep from Advanced Bionics is scheduled to be there and hopefully we can deal with the twitching in the right ear when using the Hi-Res P strategy.
Time for work! Later y’all!
*jaw dropping*
I am amazed at your progress already Sam! You are just running right over mountains in a matter of days. I looked back on your postings with the first one and you show nowhere near the amount of elation that you are showing now! I am so happy for you 🙂 I can’t wait to see how your mapping session goes on Wednesday!
keep those moments coming honey!
