The Fab Five!

The Fabulous Five Race Series replaced what was called the Amherst Triple Crown which Steph won for her age group the last four years in a row. The Triple Crown originally comprised of The St. Greg the Great Great Race, Loughran’s Alumni Run, and the Moonlight Run. Added to that was the Ronald McDonald House 5K and Lebro’s Fall Classic. Both Steph and I took 1st in our respective age groups. Even though the number of finalists was low, the challenge was to do all 5 races in a consistent pace in order to get ahead.

Special congrats go out to punky running friend, Dennis Hall, who struggled in vain to beat a woman almost twice his age. And also to Maria “runs like a duck, curses like a woman” and Fred/Frank/Freda Pieri, bodybuilding friends from Gold’s Gym and in their first year of competitive running. And lastly, to esteem running partner, Darlene Schweikert who finished 5th overall and 1st female overall and her husband, Chuck who is also in his first year of competitive running.

Next up, the Linda Yalem Safety Run 5K, tomorrow, at the University at Buffalo. And on October 11th, Checkers member and friend, Diane Sardes will be competing in the Ironman World Championships.

Thanks for the shoutout in your blog post in regards to the Fab 5 Racing Series.
Unfortunately, I will not be able to attend the Awards Ceremony. I will be in South Bend, IN that weekend watching the Notre Dame Fighting Irish beat up on Stanford. I will be returning late Sunday.

I have to be loyal to Irish heritage.
Actually, if you wouldn’t mind getting my award, that would be awesome. I would really appreciate it. I am bummed I am going to miss it, but I have had this trip planned for about a month with some of my buddies from Corning, NY.

Congrats to you and Steph! That’s a really cool accomplishment! Make room for more trophies on the mantel! 🙂
