Friday night was the Fit for Fire 5K running through downtown Buffalo starting the the Buffalo Smokehouse and going out to the lighthouse and back. It was actually a beautiful evening, sunny and warm (not HOT). With my new Garmin Forerunner 205 GPS watch, I didn’t have to worry about where the mile markers were. Plus, I was able to download the results to a special program that is included which gives me all kinds of numbers and graphs. The most interesting one was the elevation graph.
For the life of me, I couldn’t figure out why I didn’t have anything left as I approached the finish line. I was literally exhausted! The race course felt mostly flat with some downhill spots but nothing out of the ordinary. Guess what? The data tells me that for the first half, out to the lighthouse, was almost all downhill and the return trip was ALL uphill!! No wonder!! This data will definitely become useful for future races and from now on, I plan to do a pre-run with the watch so that I can plan my pace better.
But that wasn’t all….look below….what a moment of fame!!! BUFFALO’s HIZZONER…MAYOR BYRON BROWN!
With our shades and all, you would think Mike, Anne and I are some kind of Secret Service detail. Thank you Mayor Brown for giving us our 5 seconds of fame!
I think my next race is going to be the Depew-Lancaster Boys Club 10K on Wednesday. And Steph and I are signed up for the second leg of the Amherst Triple Crown, the Loughran’s Greater Buffalo Alumni Cup Rally 5K on Monday, July 9th where the last half mile features Amherst’s version of the Boston Marathon’s Heartbreak Hill and includes a 50-60 foot uphill!
Sam, you make me tired just reading. I still haven’t progressed past walking about three miles. I don’t think I’ll EVER be able to run!! I’m impressed!!
Sam my man, looking good with Mayor!! impressed, and with your running, but remember 2 minutes!! just watch it !! 🙂 Love Steph
