About a week ago (click here for the story), I reported that the World Gym was eliminating classes and changing to Planet Fitness. You know it never ever occurred to me to surf the web but Planet Fitness bought out World Gym. I found out last week when a member showed me the article. For heavens sake!!!! This happened in November 2006 yet no one ever told any of us!!

Today, I cancelled my membership since I already signed up with Gold’s Gym. Steph went there today for the first time. Boy, was she raving about the place! As I was waiting for the manager or owner, my former next door neighbor showed up. He had just joined. GUESS WHAT!!?? He was not aware that the place has or will turn over. For what he joined the gym, it really doesn’t matter to him but what matters is….he joined a gym that isn’t what is appears to be from the outside. Just like me, he was lied to!

Now, it may very well be possible that the new owners or whoever is behind the change over might keep the name and continue to run the business as usual but GUESS WHAT ELSE!!?? I was paying $39.99 a month, he is paying $19.99!! NO ONE EVER TOLD ME THAT THE MONTHLY FEE HAS BEEN REDUCED yet I had been a member of over 2 years. You know why? Because the place is run by the sleaziest slime known!

Over the past week, I spoke with a couple of other members, none of whom were aware of the change. These are dedicated weightlifters. GUESS WHAT!!?? Under the Planet Fitness “business [it really should be bullshit] model”, there will be no weights over 80 pounds. And these dedicated weightlifters didn’t even know that!!

As I was canceling my membership, this guy Rocco charged me, and another member who also canceled, for 2 months and called it a cancellation fee. For me, that was 80 bucks….80 BUCKS!!! Now we are going further down….sleaziest slime is now an understatement. Remember, they canceled the classes and one of my favorites was Spinning. They could have “compromised” and waive the cancellation fee or charge me one month instead. No…they decided to rip me and others off. I bet they still owe for those Mercedes they leased for the managers to drive around in.

To Rocco, Joe and Tom….it was a good ride while it lasted…..but unfortunately, your gym is nothing more than a bad train wreck waiting to happen! Hasta la vista, agujeros del asno!
