The following is an excerpt from an email from a good friend. Tony is the husband and is battling multiple myeloma.

Tony is in bed. He got his first dose of the new Chemo yesterday and he also started the steroids and other drugs. He was fine, we even went out after Roswell and had a steak dinner on the way home but this morning he had to get a shot for his WHITE blood cells and he got sick there. (I was at home, I usually go with him). He is an awesome guy, he made himself take a walk downtown afterwards and it made him feel better. But then when he got home, he laid down and didn’t feel well so he got back up and took another 3 mile walk and JUST made it home. WHY did he walk so much? TO metabolize the drugs.

Tony is more than an awesome guy. He is a hero and an inspiration. There have been times during a race when I wanted to give up because of sheer exhausion. But when I think about what Tony is going through and how he never quits, it gives me a fresh sense of motivation to finish the race, no matter what!
