With the running season just about to begin, I want to put particular emphasis on one particular race – the 11th annual Checkers Mile. This race is on Friday night, June 8th in lovely downtown Lockport. And it is also one of the many races which qualify for the Buffalo News Runner of the Year series.

Prize money totaling $1,000 will be offered to the first three finishers in the male and female Elite and Elite Master’s division. All together there will be 8 divisions with awards to the top three, within 5 year age groups, except for Elite.

o Children Male & Female (12 and under)
o Children Male & Female (10 and under, 1/2 mile)
o Scholastic Female and Scholastic Male
o Open Female & Masters Female
o Open Male & Masters Male
o Elite Female & Elite Masters Female
o Elite Male & Elite Masters Male

More importantly, the race is billed as A FUN CHALLENGE FOR ANY AGE AND ABILITY. Proceeds from the race will go to the benefit of the Kevin Guest House and the Lockport Youth Bureau..
