My line for the Freedom Run…

It was definitely NOT a runner’s kind of day, weather-wise…humid, mid 80s and a bearing down sun. The course which winds through the Audubon part section of Amherst/Getzville is one my favorites. It’s a flat course but with absolutely no shading trees hanging over the roadway. The last mile and a quarter is somewhat gruesome for two reasons. One is the part of Audubon Parkway where one sees the sign for a traffic signal ahead, which is where we make the right turn to the finish line. That sign is like miles away from the actual signal. The other part is the right turn onto Dodge Rd where one can see the traffic signal near the finish line. The problem with that is…its a mirage and that segment of the course is over a half mile long! With the overbearing sun, it was extremely challenging and I was definitely glad to cross the finish line!
But the biggest challenge wasn’t the race…It was Tony Garrow (above) finishing the race at 26:04….almost a minute faster than what he expected. See my posts, Shamrock Run, Congratulations Tony!, “Quitting is not an option…Finishing is the ONLY option!” as to why. Congrats dude!!
