Bionic, as in having some form of engineered system implanted inside me. Actually, I am going to have cochlear implant surgery on January 12, 2007.

You see, my hearing has been slowly deteriorating over the past 10 to 15 years to a point where I have maxed out the benefit of my hearing aid. About My Hearing on my web site talks a little more in-depth about my hearing and how I cope with it these days.

Even though there are no guarantees, the possibilities are promising and endless. If all goes well and according to plan, I should have at least the hearing I had when I was 25, be able to use the telephone without assistance and hear sounds that I have never ever heard in my entire life. When I try to describe my hearing to people these days, I tell them to compare a black & white tv with an indoor antenna (my hearing) to a wide-screen HDTV (their hearing).

I am really excited and looking forward to this wonderful opportunity. Through From the Mindset of Sam Spritzer, I hope to share my experiences as I embark on this “new life”.
