Similarities to Martin Luther King, Jr.

Today is Martin Luther King Day. Normally, I would not be celebrating it but I think we share a common bond in the words “I have a dream…” from his famous speech delivered on the steps at the Lincoln Memorial in Washington D.C. on August 28, 1963. Hopefully, I won’t hear from any lawyers after all, this a personal blog not the New York Times!

  • I have a dream…
  • I have a dream that one day I will hear like any other normal hearing human being.
  • I have a dream that one day I can enjoy conversations like any other normal hearing human being.
  • I have a dream that one day I won’t have to ask someone to repeat what they said.
  • I have a dream that one day I will hear the birds sing, the crickets chirping, the leaves rustling, the raindrops on the window.
  • I have a dream that one day I no longer will need the telephone relay services or someone else to help me with the telephone.
  • I have a dream of fully enjoying the sounds of music, television, movies and all of those wonderful forms of entertainment.

Today, I am feeling slightly better than yesterday. Although I am still experiencing ringing the ears with a slight imbalance, it is tolerable. I am able to shake my head and nod without feeling the effects of vertigo. The swelling has been going down but not enough to feel my “new” ear. Thursday is the follow up post-op visit at Dr. Diaz’s office.

    Sam,

I trust today dawns with you feeling even better. Needless to say we all have a huge amount of respect for you as well as whar you are doing. It took a large degree of courage that is not lost on any of us in the office.

Please let me know if there is anything I can do to make this transition easier for you. I have been keeping in touch visa vie Judy and others in the office.

I did not want you to think that I took what you have done lighltly. I know we do not speak as much in the office as we used to but it does not mean that I do not value your friendhip.

I wish you nothing but a speedy recovery as you embark on this new and exciting stage of your life. If you are up to it how about coffee or lunch this Saturday.

    Steve
