This was the 29th annual edition of one of the bigger races of the year in honor of Bob Ivory, the former legendary track and cross country coach of St. Joes. The weather was gorgeous – partly sunny in the upper 40s.

The course is flat starting on Kenmore Av. in front of St. Joes and finishes with a 3/4 lap of the St. Joes track. With well over 300 runners, maneuvering strategy was important especially since you don’t want to have to run wide while going through 8 turns. The track with its loose black gravel was much more of a challenge. Anyone with a long stride would be petrified since there was little no grip or traction and one could risk tearing a hamstring slipping and sliding. This is not the kind of place you would want to attempt a final sprint to the finish line especially on the curves.

I was happy with my time considering I hadn’t been racing consistently and Steph was obviously more than thrilled with hers. The only thing she WASN’T happy about…I ate her trophy!

WOO Sammy boy! You rock! Great timing! It is so nice to see your countdown ticker almost down to a two month period.

Stephanie gets another point!!! We know how hard those are to get….

I always liked the awards, even got one once because they go five deep… one of the unique little things that make that race special.

Good to see you were out there. Too bad the Upstate race was the same day.

I’m impressed that you’re doing so well after taking your little hiatus from running! That’s great! ๐Ÿ™‚
    Hope you’re having a great week ๐Ÿ™‚
