Off-topic: World Gym and the Village Glen

I haven’t been to the gym in almost two weeks and I miss it! I am planning to get back next Monday in preparation for the upcoming “rabbit hunting” season (Mike, Anne, Tom…if you are reading this, yes this means you!!) Anyway, Steph is/was a member of the Village Glen, a local tennis and fitness club. This club has been around for ages and I was a member at one time. Actually, it was more of a social club and believe me, you didn’t have to worry about the smelly, sweaty aroma. There were a few women and guys who were there for other reasons. Anyway, they will be going all tennis starting Feb. 2nd. So poor Steph and her friends, uprooted and all started looking for another gym. And two of them came to mind, World Gym and Gold’s. Both are within reasonable driving distance from home.

To make a long story short, we found out that the World Gym is eliminating the classes there including my beloved spinning class led by Michelle, who can spin with the best of them and forever! I am devastated! Wha’ da fugg!!?? This class was almost always full. And on Saturdays, you had to get there before 7AM to get a bike for the 8:15AM class. Now, I am not exactly sure how many bikes there are..perhaps, 20 to 25. They occupy a little corner of the gym upstairs so small that you have to walk sideways just to get around. That space is 3 times smaller than the other class room which is used for bodypump, yoga, etc…classes that are not as popular.

So I approached some guy named Tom who I am not sure if he is the “new owner” or “manager” or whatever. And he confirmed everything. He mentioned that is they way things are and I should look around and see what other gyms are doing and that he has been in the business for “20-something” years. He even mentioned Planet Fitness.

Huh? Tom…speak louder!! Who gives a “bleep” about Planet Fitness!! You may have been “in the business 20-something years” but I have been in life longer than you. Lemme tell you something, I am not Planet Fitness chopped liver. Gimme a break! Its a little corner upstairs…heck, most people don’t even know about it!! What are you going to use it for…storage??? Your office??? Have you ever seen the spinning class up there??? People are literally fighting to get a bike on a Saturday morning! Well Tom, the sad side of the story is…you probably lost a chance to get a large chunk of the members leaving the Village Glen for….Gold’s.

Anyway…Michelle, Paul, the other Tom, Alex, Alicia, Tracy and everyone else who enjoys spinning at the World Gym….if you are reading this. I am not sure if you know as much as me but drop me a note and tell me your thoughts! And do let this guy Tom at the World Gym know your feelings too!

ON the other hand, I bet 1/3 of the gym goes for classes, and a ride on a cardio machine. There was a big ta-do about towels. How many people will be ticked about the classes. I know there is at least one attorney who spins and does BP. There must be more. One thrid of the gym could walk

    Sam,

Just stopping by. Looks like the surgery went well, and I can’t wait to hear about your activation date!

Have a good 11 days until then.

There are rumors circulating around that since the Village Glen is changing to all tennis, the Moonlight Run will be cancelled. When the Resolution Run was cancelled, we were told that Moonlight would still be held, but the last post on the BuffaloRunners forum puts that in doubt. We (Checkers) have it on our calendar, BuffaloRunners does not.

I haven’t run Moonlight in a few years, skipping it to do Mississippi Mudd’s instead.
